Sleep paralysis is the ultimate nightmare. You feel like you're awake but your brain is still dreaming. Dreaming demons and dark shadows in the current room you're sleeping in is a quick way to catch a case of the heebie jeebies. There are countless folk tales on sleep paralysis like in African culture where sleep paralysis is interpreted as the 'devil riding your back' where demons have sex with people in their sleep. While it would be great to have demons have sex with me in my sleep... the reason behind these hallucinations are based on interruptions during the REM phase of sleep. This video depicts a short version these hallucinations, although a demon might of slipped out into the real world.
